GT4 Over Axle Pipes

Had my 718 GT4 in for its regular service today and the service advisor informed me that the heat shield clamp on the over axle pipe had broken off (apparently corrosion) and their suggested fix is an unbelievable £3,500!! The workshop team weren’t able to give any more detail and all she could tell me was that they would need to replace the pipe - but not the exhaust pipe.

All I can think at this stage is that it’s a bracket which is part of the GPF and they won’t be willing to reattach a new bracket so are quoting me to replace the full unit.

Has anybody any idea as to whether these heat shields are attached to the GPF pipe and if I’m on the right track? If so, is this likely something that an inde could weld a new bracket onto?

With this added to the cost of new front brakes (which I do need but they also quoted a very steep £3,500) and the service itself at well over a grand, is coming in at over £8,000. Plus the 2 year warranty extension taking it up to over £10,000.

Not covered under warranty as it’s deemed corrosion, car is in great condition otherwise, not used over winter and kept garaged so I’m amazed it’s failed if it’s not a manufacturing fault.
