...but ist a politically correct one!
Paul Broster report on page 15 of Friday's paper....
Per yesterday's "Daily Express" a pedestrian injured in a hit und run was ticked off by GMP for describing the woman who ran her over und driving off as "being of fat appearance!" The BiB ticked her off und refused to use the word.
Too many doughnuts around his middle - ist maybe a ickle bit sensitive
When I said "fat" they pounced on me but I could not think of another word to describe her. The police were apathetic und dismissive and would not let me sign my statement. They treated me with disdain!
Ist not the way to endear us und leave open to BiB bashing from us - which I usually do with style
Victim continues:
What ist wrong with society when you cannot use the word "fat"
Victim reported her accident to station in Oldham und says also
I did look up "fat" in dictionary und thesaurus but could only find  "lardy " "porky" "podgy" "rotund" und a lot of words I dare not use. People describe me as skinny with the frizzy fuzzy hair but does not upset me
Per the paper all 11 thousand GMP officers are to follow stricted rules of language. They are not allowed to use traditional words such as
"pet", "dear" as they are ruled "offensive"
Th-that scotches my plan to purr Liebchen a lot if in bother then!
In fact some words such as policeman und spokesman are deemed "offensive" per this code. und sexist und ethnics are to be called "non-white" - Ist ridiculous!
Paper says
A spokesperson for the force said the "policy was in place to help police deal with the public
The Daily Express understands that "fat" ist not in guide book document called "Power of Language" but it say officers are not to use language which can be perceived as "offensive".
Norman Brennan of "Victim of Crime Trust" says
Public want officers who are obsessed with catching REAL criminals rather than obsession with politically correct words und silliness. The lady was simply describing the driver who happened to be fat!
Ist not first time pee-cee nonsense has hit headlines with GMP. CC Todd had to apologise to officers after sending letters threatening with sack if they came across as racist, anti-gay or sexist....
Jawohl - this is laudable principle. Ist when it descends to silliness that we have a problem
Have pasted this from post made to the Paulie's forum for discussion und not BiB bashing ;)

The BiB might be required by force policy to use a restricted language-set, but that does not give them the right to impose it upon anyone else.
If I were to make a verbal statement including adjectives such as "fat", "bald", "limping", etc. and found that a written version had amended these descriptions I would refuse to sign it. If I were to make a written statement including such words and have the police refuse to accept it, then I would walk out of the police-station and my estimation of our highly-politicised police force (sorry, "service"
would slip yet another notch.
Streaky

Surely the whole point of a police statement is to record what a witness said word for word, not to question the language used.
So now when looking for the offender the police are looking for "a person".
As has rightly been pointed out, a Section 9 statement made by a MoP is made in their own words. No matter how offensive they may be to anyone else and if a BiB changes the wording from the original witnesses own words, it is no longer the statement of the witness.
I had experience of the PCness of one particular police force a couple of years ago. Along with two colleagues and a couple of BiB, I was executing a search warrant on some premises. It happened that one of the colleagues the only female out of over 100 of us doing the job. She always insisted that we should never treat her any different to the others because of her sex, however, like in a lot of similar jobs, sarcasm is the order of the day.
In these premises, amongst the stuff we had gone there to find, was an ironing board. My non-female colleague took one look at it, turned to the female and suggested that she could put some creases in his trousers if we'd got time. A few minutes later, in the kitchen of the premises, we saw the sink was piled high with dishes that hadn't been washed. Cue for more comments about getting the Marigolds out and sorting it out.
Back at the police station, we were unloading seized items and female colleague commented that something she'd picked up was rather heavy. Her reply, when it was pointed out to her that things made of cast iron usually are, was that she coudn't be expected to know that because she was only a girl! A BiB who had been with us then said that he couldn't understand how we got away with saying the things we did. He explained that if he so much as said, "You look nice today" to a WPC, he would be reprimanded for sexism!
WTF????

Absolutely. Hope you're well by the way Streaky.... I've seen Officers write statements dictated to them by a witness with all the classic and old-fashioned Police phrases, "walking in North-East direction" etc. Rubbish! The statement should be written EXACTLY as the witness dictates. It's THEIR statement and they can, and should, be allowed to say WHATEVER they want. I've often desribed people as 'fat build' in my own arrest notes. I've never had a problem in court at all, because i'm happy to explain why i put that. Obviously, describing someone as a "Fat Ars
le" wouldn't be acceptable (no matter how much i may actually want to write it!!!)gilbertd said:

So presumeably someone will be contacting the Chief Constable, and asking him to retract the statement, consider addtional training for the PC who inadvertently got it wrong, and asking the the victim to redo the Section 9 statement.
Thought not.
And can we stop going on about fat people.
