Golf 1.4 TSI DSG (2018)

Currently drive an 18 plate 1.4 Golf TSI. Owned around 5 years, used the tried and tested route of buying used from VW at 3 yrs old with two year warranty and service plan and then continued to extend the warranty and service plan with my local VW main dealer. As of now, the main dealer can offer an extended service plan/MOT's but mentioned extended warranty can only be taken out with VW directly.
I am stuck in a quandary/crossroads, car has less than 50k on the clock (5-6k per year based on my usage) and in decent condition but have an itch to consider changing for something slightly bigger but no idea what as the Golf does many things very well, decent space for a hatch and the ride and punch from the 1.4 TSI/DSG combo are decent. I do worry that my 90% short journeys in stop start London are not great for the DSG and aware that if any major issues cropped up with the DSG or engine would be big bills.
If I do change I want more room in the boot, wouldn't be against an estate or mini SUV but needs to be auto and petrol or petrol/hybrid due to the short journeys and low annual miles.
I also quite like the fact I have a local VW main dealer so another VAG family option is possible but have reservations have some.of the newer stuff which seem to have more glitches. The T-Cross seems to fit the bill but not sure if the ride will as nice as the Golf. There are also Seat and Skoda alternatives. I have thought about Mazda options and return to n/a petrol but that's a very different proposition having been accustomed to the punchy 1.4 TSI last few years.
What would anyone else do stick or twist with the Golf? Has anyone bought an extended warranty with VW, is it worthwhile for the cost/coverage?
