For the DB9 I had a CTEK MXS 5.0. Seems plenty complicated and clever enough, and doesn't take up much wall space. I now use it perfectly happily with the Vanquish. However that came with the proper TM-292 charger, boxed with all the adaptors etc. As the CTEK charger seems to work perfectly well I wonder if there's any advantage in using the Aston one, as if not it might as well be sold because they're worth £3-400 new!

What would you do?

You can get the Aston one for slightly less than £300 new - the MXS5 is around £100 maybe a bit less if Amazon have it on sale.
Depends on how much hassle it is to sell and whether you desperately need the difference.
I’d probably use the Aston one and then when it breaks switch to the CTEK.

Well, I was just thinking that the money might be more useful in the bank than sitting in a cupboard in the garage forever... it won't add to the value of the car on resale. And if I should get a car that's not an Aston, will the Aston charger work with it?

Not sure who makes that particular Aston branded one - Tecmate maybe ?
I imagine it will work with any car though.
When I got my Porsche GT3 it came with a Porsche branded CTEK which I used right up until the day I drove it out of the garage with it still connected.

According to Google AI keep the CTEK and sell the Aston one - more money in the bank and a better charger in the garage.

The TM-292 is an AML branded version of one of the Optimate Ampmatic chargers. I've been using an Ampmatic 6 for years and it's been 100%, so I recently bought one for my wife's C30 as she doesn't drive it much. Very happy.

CTEK 7 is useful because it supports supply mode for when you are doing a battery change, as do some of the Optimate models.
