Where does it all end?
Discussion
Every week the food shop goes up, restaurant prices up, coffee prices up, water up, energy up, holidays up, taxes up, minimum wage up, service on everything down. “Exceptional” wait times on the phone to call centres, constant mistakes from people doing admin jobs
Where does it get all too much and we end up with £4 loafs of bread and a £25ph minimum wage
I earn good money and it already feels like I can’t be bothered anymore, eating out is expensive, drinks are expensive and you just get mediocre service
Just been to Costa and £2.75 for a cake that’s defiantly shrunk in the last few weeks, the calories are down from 310 to 270
You buy goods and they’ve been cost cut so much they aren’t worth the money anymore, cars being the big one, but even stuff like chocolate is ruined now unless you go for the premium brands. Bought some expensive running trainers 6 months ago and they’ve already got a hole in, the identical pair I had before lasted me 3 years, more and more polyester and blends being snuck into clothing, it just feels like everything is crap, even when buying the “quality brands”
I even recently bought a replacement wireless keyboard and mouse. Same model as the broken one and they’ve made the mouse so small now it gives me hand cramp.
The only thing that seems to have remained the same is TVs!
How does it continue from here? Do we just accept it and get used to it or are we really at late stage capitalism and a few years from meal rations?

I feel you. I am lucky to be a high earner but rarely go out for food or do anything like that as I just don't feel it's worth it.
I saw a post on Facebook complaining about the Athletics. Apparently it's £4 for a bottle of water
Hot dog £15
Pork Roll £18.50
I saw to a friend as a rant that it was just typical Britain. If there's a way to absolutely rinse us, they'll find it. If there's a way to suck any type of joy, they'll do it
Parking fees, added "service fees" or admin fees. Even my local lake where I swim sometimes is £10 a session now, which includes a new 50p "service fee". I still haven't a clue what this is for
Petrol is ridiculous. Trains are ridiculous. Anytime I remotely consider a UK break I resent the prices I see online. I even sometimes consider a hotel if I'm seeing a friend and want to drink and make a night out of it. Never worth it.

Being 62 years old I can assure you inflation has been happening for a long time inflation hit 27% in 1975.
Most have in reality had it pretty easy for the last 10 years.
Yes inflation but was shirnkflashion as prelevent back then? Did you see the video of the mars bar from 1999 which was 62g and the new ones are 40g, 56% reduction Most have in reality had it pretty easy for the last 10 years.
Bought some razor heads today, used to get 4 for £30, picked up the same size box today and you now get 3 for the same £30, it s even the same box they ve just removed one of the heads!

£2.75?? that's a bargain. I popped into a Starbucks earlier that was bolted onto the side of a Sainsburys, a lump of cake in there was nearly 4 quid!ARH said:

I'm 61 and remember that lots of things were way more expensive than they are now. People used to darn socks rather than get new ones - my mum did anyway. And she went to leatherwork evening classes and made my school satchel. It's still in the loft of my late Mum's house. Most have in reality had it pretty easy for the last 10 years.

Seems like you have quite a comfortable financial cushion based on your other thread Where does it get all too much and we end up with £4 loafs of bread and a £25ph minimum wage

I remember when I was a kid that they were so expensive that most people rented them. Later on, when flat screens appeared, the early ones were several thousand quid.
Now, huge tellys can be had for the price of a monthly food shop.

He's worried about shirnkflashion being more prelevent.

Everything in the Uk seems to be angled to keep your hand in your pocket and spend. But much of it is your own fault and being lazy. Buying cups of coffee, sandwiches and all manner of rubbish. Let’s go out for breakfast ffs! Make a flask and a sandwich at home!
Pal of mine is typical. Moans he has no money, has to keep working at 67 but spends at least £300 a week on pub and pub grub, take aways, Uber's and going to the bloody bakers everyday!
