Blasphemy laws return?

On the face of it this seems rather shocking:

It’s been more than a hundred years since the state last prosecuted a blasphemy offence, and the actual legislation was supposed to have been taken down in 2008. There have been many private prosecutions (Mary Whitehouse etc.) but they have generally failed with a fair amount of public ridicule.
The reposted joke wasn’t very funny - there have been many better ones over the years (Dave Allen, Monty Python, Father Ted etc. etc. involved a fair amount of religious humour/satire and bacon sandwiches were a common theme as far as ridiculing religious prohibitions went). But public prosecutions and court cases? What???
I understand that the Free Speech Union, a fairly right wing group are taking this to appeal, but can there really be any politicians on Left or Right who would have supported a prosecution of this sort? The Left in particular spent the second half of the twentieth century fighting against ‘moral authoritarianism’.

And here we have it in a nutshell. Nowadays to consider speech free makes you right wing. Although truth be told it has always been so, in the early 1900s a Labour Council tried to stop a Conservative Group holding a meeting and the court said that freedom of speech belongs to all views not just those they agree with.What a tragic reflection on society with their cancellation culture and "be kind" unless you disagree with them at which point you deserve to die.
O/T but the GB news website is full of scam ads by the looks of it. I suffer pretty bad tinnitus so clicked on a link supposedly promoting some type of cure, mainly out of curiosity given Doctors have told me there isn't much can be done about it. It actually has deep fake AI promotional films using what appear to be various Doctors and schlebs promoting the stuff. A minute on google will take you to links where the actual Doctors state it's a scam and they know nothing about it.
I know people are all for using a wide range of news sources but i don't think i am going to see any junk like that promoted by traditional msm like the BBC.

What they really don't like is that people are judging them on what they say and calling them out as tts. They're being called tts precisely because they have exercised their freedom of speech.And when anyone's speech starts inciting racial hatred or violence they quite rightly find the courts intervening, regardless of political ideology.

The international version of the BBC website shows ads. It would be interesting to know if they filter out the junk or just display every ad that Google, or whoever their agency is, feeds into the ad spaces.
