992 Options dilemma
Discussion
Guys I'm stuck and looking for a bit of advice.
I currently have a deposit on a pre-owned 992 S Cab with an OPC. They have messed be about with collection for weeks so am considering buying another car and have found a nice 4S.
Whilst both cars have pretty much everything else I'm after the 2S doesn't have the auto-dimming mirrors, whilst the 4S has got -10mm pasm. Both cars have the sport design kit (I have a strong preference for this) and neither have lift.
I live in a modern development in London where the dropped kerb to access the car park has a c 11 degree angle and the road then rises up into the middle as you exit.
So the question is will I be better getting dazzled at night and probably not scraping the front, or almost certainly scraping the front (according to ai)? The spec I'm after is quite 'heavy' so other suitable cars are not currently available. Are there any good solutions for the side mirrors without auto-dimming? Googling hasn't turned much up. I'm not bothered about rain-sensing wipers or the auto-dimming interior mirror.
Neither OPC is close, and OPC 2 is, in particular, bloody miles away.
It will be my daily driver, including plenty of driving at night in winter. I'm not concerned about traction etc as used to drive my GT3 through the winter and never had a problem.
Has anyone been in a similar position/ can anyone help?

You should either go 2S or find a third option. There will be plenty of cars out there without sports suspension, with lift and with dimming mirrors. Just be patient and cool your jets. There are always deals to be done the in future, so whatever super special deal right now can likely be duplicated to a great extent and meanwhile a few extra £ would be well worth spending to get the right car, rather than the wrong car at a slightly better price and a couple of weeks / months sooner.
Why are you being messed around by the dealer on the cab? In my experience they usually want the deal closed asap, do they have the car in stock?
I’m in a T with -10 pasm and my next one will have FAL, it just removes any anxiety and the noise of the spoiler catching ranks alongside kerbing a wheel.

It's actually kinda the opposite, I feel I paid a start of august price and I'm getting the car at the end of august! I've been looking for a couple of months now and missed a car the day before the S came up. I don't think I need lift without sports pasm. I wouldn't mind if it was a sacrificial front lip a la GT3 but the sport design front splitter is painted...Tuftie said:

Ah that's useful, how often do you find it scrapes and is it just the rubbery bits in front of the front wheels or the actual front splitter itself?I m in a T with -10 pasm and my next one will have FAL, it just removes any anxiety and the noise of the spoiler catching ranks alongside kerbing a wheel.
Yes the car is in stock, I put a deposit on it on 1 August and was told I could have it the following weekend, heard nothing so chased and was told it would be the following weekend, which was last weekend. I'm away next weekend which they're aware of. Waiting for a part apparently and for some reason they don't feel able to do the rest of the cosmetic prep whilst it's waiting for the part. Communication from the dealer is non-existent so I call them every few days to try to ascertain what on earth is going on
Sadly AI is likely to be correct. I have a 10-11 degree driveway slope onto a cambered lane. A base 992.2 carrera without sport kit, no -10mm and FAL activated just clears, assuming I approach/depart at a slight angle. My previous 992.1 was exactly the same. Annoyingly, it’s rare that FAL has been needed anywhere else so far, but the drive slope means I had no choice.
Read what you say about a sport front preference, however that lowers the approach angle and IMHO you’ll definitely need FAL. Forget the -10.
So it’s your call, but I’d be v cautious with either option.

I’m in a 992.2 T with -10mm, FAL and Sport Design kit.
The front lip is not painted in the centre section where you will likely get contact, its just sacrificial plastic, see below…

I would agree with the poster that advised waiting for the right car. 911s aren’t rare so i wouldn’t compromise too much if it were me.

Understand that everyone has their spec preferences, but important to weigh up how often you would use them.
Something like auto-dip mirrors might be very rarely, but something like the suspension is evident on every drive.
Only my personal view, based on experiences with various 991 and 992.1, but I would choose a model with the non-lowered suspension - more comfortable on UK roads, better ground clearance, and with lower dB rated tyres, slightly quieter road noise.
992.1 ‘S’ or 992.2 ‘S’ could be good choices and both Manual or Auto.

I’ve had a couple of scrapes, it’s just the plastic and I’ve wet sanded to reduce the appearance of the scuff marks, but I avoid a local road that has large speed bumps which means an irritating detour. We are all different, go for the car you want and if that’s the cab then hang on for it, despite the dealer, in my experience none of them are particularly good.
The -10mm does not just drop the car, it doubles the spring rates and make the car very stiff.
This is never pointed out in either brochures or by salesman and it changes the car significantly. This has a significant effect on UK roads, which some people want, but others regret (or don't even know/understand why their car rides so harshly).

I have -10mm and FAL. Takes away the worry of scraping the front splitter but still wise to approach speed humps with caution. Worth the wait to find the right car although 992.1 prices seem to be firming up a little due to the price differential with 992.2 equivalents
I’m now looking for a .2 T, ideally new from stock to push a deal. I’ve been watching.1 prices (I’m in a 992.1 T) and noticed the dealers are asking slightly more but WBAC does not reflect this. I’ll probably wait until December but may get out of my car in early autumn. I have a MY25 911.2 GTS and whilst I have the front lift I have never found I have to use it, even with speed bumps. I am fairly rural (ish) in Kent and find the ride fine (no worse than the various M cars I have had for instance). I try to avoid pot holes obviously but on the occasion I haven't managed to, the car has dealt with them. It sounds like you need the lift for home though so that must be pretty non negotiable. I would agree with those above that waiting a bit rather than buying now and regretting it is the way to go, it is incredible the number of 911s coming up and with the change in reg just around the corner you'd expect even more stock in September and October. Hope that's helpful.
