With the Type 01 getting so much negative press, what should they be releasing in October ?

I like it so far, reckon it will be epic but it does seem to upset a lot of people, so what should Jaguar be getting ready that would please you ?

Cx-75. With the gas turbines.

Wouldn’t make them any money but it would please me.

It’s doesn’t really matter…people just love a moan and struggle to be anything but negative. Probably missing something in their sad little lives!!!

Considering they're going electric, something along the lines of the mercedes cla would have made more sense IMO. Also keep the old logo, drop the minimalism, put in a wood dash with old school switch gear.

Legs and feet instead of wheels. And doors on the bottom, with ladders.

They should have updated the I-pace. Better efficiency, bigger battery, lower price and it would have been competitive.

Maybe they just shouldn’t have bothered. Next to no brand equity, no space in the market that hasn’t already been occupied or couldn’t be occupied by a brand that’s stronger.

I’d be disappointed to see Jag go but the marque has left me cold for years. Type 01 and whatever goes with it won’t change that.

Restomods. Or a modern EV re-invention of a MKII.

As a modern car manufacturer they had no future. Happy to be proved wrong, but as a ultra luxury modern EV manufacturer I don't think they have a future either.

Love the F-type, so that.

I won't say it too loudly, but I think they're spot on with what they're producing. They've always been the poor man's Rolls anyway.

It's a good question, their hands were tied. Personally I would have wound up the company. There must be sufficient synergies with RR and future models will share the new platform

They couldn't compete in volume/quality/innovation with the Germans, their models and engines are archaic

They gambled too early to go electric fully and banking on some residual brand goodwill to shift some super pricey wheels as upmarket was the only option Too late, too invested or too stubborn to go hybrid which I believe lotus are retrospectively

95% chance it's a flop and will be wound up in a year or two (they must know this but are saving face with new CEO to at least try as the investment is a sunk cost). The massive margins on RR products pays for it all for now

So they should have kept a hybrid option of this new car and an SUV in development is my answer or just kill the brand a few years ago

(We all know it's going to be a bloodbath over the next 10+ years for all manufacturers so how are they "special")

They should have poured money into two model lines, F-Pace and F-Type, both these cars were pretty good sellers for Jaguar but they basically stood still and watched them become old.

I-Pace too...apparently it was pretty good it just needed continued development, with the apparent demand for a stylish EV SUV they had one it just needed updated.

Incremental updates like Porsche do with the 911...not too much, a nip and a tuck here and there and the most important one...make the reliability and quality top class.

These cars didn't appeal to everyone but then again what does but they had a customer base that loved the brand.

I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens when the new cars arrive.

Chucking the 5.0 in the boot of the Cx75 would of been my option, those Bond replica's that where built and one since "Callum'd" are peak Jaguar for me.

F-type Shooting Brake would have been lovely.

I never saw them like that they were more of a poor man's Aston Martin IMHO, but then Aston aren't doing too well either!

F-types are lovely but the market for 2 seaters is very small and they were never cheap, but pricing was Jaguars key feature in the 60s/70s.

Maybe some sort of Final Edition?

Agree.

There was one car I desperately wanted when I'd drop the kids off on the school run: an XK8 replacement. Nobody at the time was doing a nice 2+2 coupe/convertible. Jag dropped it without replacement.

Then as the kids started getting a bit older, an XJ replacement would have been ideal. They were long in the tooth/gone by then. I bought a FFRR - a car that presumably Jaguar isn't allowed to compete with - instead.

For me those were the two cars that defined modern Jaguar, and the two cars they killed without replacement.

I don't doubt that the F-type is as good as people say it is but it's never been something that'd fit in my life.

It's an interesting question, and they may still make a success of the launch of this car. It is supposedly very good and what we all think does not necessarily translate to the real world.

Euro 7 probably did the most damage as I suspect it killed off the prospect of them being able to develop a new engine at all. On the basis that they could not carry on doing what they were doing and had little financial flexibility, making a 'desirable' EV might have been the only option left. They likely cannot chase volume sales, so low volume high margin is probably best.

What they should ideally have done is not alienate their existing customer base and do a much better job of designing the interior so it photographs better.

No car company is ever going to please everyone, and it's the way of the world recently that those they fail to please will shout most loudly.

I'm not sure the company is really saveable anymore but I think the approach they are taking (moving to smaller volume, more upmarket models at a time when such cars are fundamentally going through a reset anyway due to the switch to electrification) is probably as good a chance as any. Whether they are right to go for more aggressive, modern styling rather than leaning on their... curvaceous heritage I'm not so sure. I'd have thought that buyers in the market they appear to be aiming at would be inherently older and more conservative but then I'm far from an expert in automotive trends.

As for the seemingly endless drip-feeding of teasers, I think it's a mistake but again, I'm nowhere near the target market for such vehicles so my opinions on the matter are somewhat irrelevant.

Cards on the table, big fan of Jaguar, and had several.

I think Jaguar are the manufacture who might have the best back catalogues as far as good looking cars go up to 2017 when the F and E pace launched. Yes I include the X-Type and second gen S-Type, neither were my cup of tea but both now turn my head when I see one.

But back to the question of where should they have gone...... EV SUV? But who would have bought one, after the I-pace,

Just had a look with the help of AI. Top 4 Jaguars by volume manufactured are
X-type
F-pace
XF
MK2

The XJ series is in second place actually but this was covering a 51 year period.

So as a predominately saloon car manufacture they faced a problem of a shrinking market sector.

I was thinking of the XJ and other saloons.
