Normally I roll my eyes when people moan about "the world today" but the fact that they need to do that mystifies me. Why do people even do that in public?
Selfish people exist. Usually it's the same folk who put their feet on seats of public transport. wiggy001 said:
I think it was Iain Dale that said he often carries a cheap set of earphones and hands them to people on the train that are playing music through the speakers
Pointless though as most phones don't have headphone sockets any more. This is when the craze for using your phone on speaker took off.

Every time I get on a London bus there are at least two or three people either having conversations, listening to music or watching some s
te on their phones with loudspeakers going. Unreal. Puggit said:

They see people on reality shows doing it and think that's the way famous or influential people use their phones. It's lost on them that it is so the film crew can actually pick up both sides of the conversation.
It's this. People are thick as s

O/T but what's going on with so many people holding the bottom of the phone to their ear and talking? Is it on speakerphone and if so why?!
TX.
I think it’s an American thing. Push-to-talk (basically sending a short voice note) was more popular than texting over there about 15-20 years ago & that was how phones were generally held when it was being used. Why clowns here are doing it when making voice calls is beyond me. I guess it’s possible they’re sending voice notes into a WhatsApp group chat, but it’s more likely it’s just a voice call and they’re an utter cretin.TX.
It's a bizarre practice. In private, I often take calls with speaker phone out of convenience as I can place the phone down while I'm doing other things but in public, I use the phone as it was intended. Phone to ear. It seems to be a generational thing. Most younger people seem to find it normal to walk around in public, looking at their screen while chatting away on speaker phone while everyone in the vicinity also shares in the conversation.
