My car is a 2021 build G20 M340i MHT XDrive. The OBDII connectors have the capacity to make 16 wire connections. The OBDII connector in the car is in an awkward place to get at, so I bought a short OBDII extension cable to make connecting easier. It claimed to be “fully wired” but when it arrived the ribbon cable only had 9 wires. The OBDII socket in the car uses 11 of the available pins.

If 9 wires is considered “fully wired”, does anyone know why the socket in my car has two extra pins, and if those pins are necessary for Bluetooth coding adapters, and error scanners.

TIA

Thanks for your reply.

I had already seen this. In the BMW version of the pinout it shows pins 2 & and 10 as unused, whereas in the socket in the car, pins 1, 2, 7, 10 & 15 are not used.

For G Series it’s more E Net than the older K line comms.

If you don’t already have a cable, I have this one and it works well with phone and laptop. https://ebay.io/m/5VJyMN
