Got a couple of days to myself in Downtown Denver coming up. No car, but happy to use public transport. Any recommendations for things to see and do, decent places to eat on a budget, etc.

I just did the same in Santiago Chile and had a great time doing what reviewers recommended.

Only been to Denver once on route to Breckenridge, stayed about half an hour before getting up the road so I am no help.

Not much really. Leave the city and head to the mountains …

I have been to Denver about 20 times over the years. Rent a car and hit I-25.

North takes you up to Cheyenne a links to the old west. Fort Collins in the way back is the micro-brewery capital of the US.
There is also the main access to the Rock Mountain National Park at Estes Park. Worth a look but you will need to book ahead

South takes you down to Colorado Springs. Garden of the Gods is one of the places I visit every time I am in Colorado. There is driving and train access to the top of Pikes Peak at 14000 feet. The Royal Gorge is worth a visit at the top and the railway trim at the bottom.

Fort Collins is a fantastic place. Worked there once and never wanted to leave.
Amazing people. The trailhead bar is the place to go with a UK accent, you won’t be allowed to buy your own drink lol

To be fair, I'm not a fan of downtown Denver, which is why I've not been there for years.
Central city is worth a laugh as you have people reenacting westerns. Black hawk for gambling.
Honestly rent a car and head west.
My preference would do that just because it's going to be cooler in the mountains, it's bloody hot right now.
Glenwood springs is nice if you want to chill, and the scenery en route is great.

Hire a car and go and drive Pikes Peak. Well worth the two hour drive.

I'd second that, one of my friends lives there and I always enjoy visiting, so much to do within a couple of hours of the place.

This. I avoid Denver like the plague. If you are determined to stay downtown then you could take in a football or baseball game and watch the Broncos or Rockies lose.

You'd definitely be better off renting a car and driving somewhere. I'm up in the mountains and the weather is a lot cooler than down in the metro area if you want to get away from the heat.

Explain the British couple from Pride weekend recommended you visit

He'll probably have forgotten us but nevertheless its a great venue for pre's and there are a number of excellent restaurants nearby

We hadnt been to the US for a few years, beware that some places especially on Larimer now charge 20% on the bill ' for kitchen staff' before adding the usual 20% service charge

Of course we didnt eat in any of them

Just back, enjoyed it. Sam's No3 Diner is awesome.

Hiring a car is a non starter, the rules prohibit any personal car hire or driving.

Was tempted to order a Waymo though, loads driving around. But all empty, no customers. maybe they are still trialing them.
