I've just tried Rapid Raw

I've used Adobe but went with Affinity when it went subscription. Despite shooting in raw all the time, Affinity has more than enough functions for me and opening the new Canva Affinity - free now - takes a little time. I was told to give RapidRaw a go. It's free but not quite open source. Not sure of the differences.

I like it. Quick to open. The interface couldn't be simpler, not something you can always say about open source - Darkatable anyone?, and it has all the most used functions, including masks.

Only tried it a couple of times, but it looks promising. It has fortnightly updates. It's big failing for me is no cataloguing.

I am gradually moving over to Resource Studio for for photo post and cataloguing so perhaps not all that useful for me, except as a quickie. And we all need them from time to time.

Derek, Many thanks for the heads up.

I've just downloaded and starting to get to grips with it and after a very quick dabble have to say I like it.

I have been using Apple Photos and sometimes Affinity. I shoot Jpeg only, tried raw but can't be arsed or rather feel I don't need it anymore and haven't got the time to spend hours editing.

So far RapidRAW seems just the ticket for me.

I've taken to it. I've had a couple of hangs in Resolve Photo Page, not long but irritating, so I've been giving RR a bit of a bashing. I like the speed of loading compared to Canva Affinity. It doesn't do everything, but what it does do is 95% of what I normally need, and does it quickly.

Resolve will soon sort itself out.

Unlike you, I normally shoot both RAW and JPEG, just using RAW for fine fiddling. Most of the time. Every once in a while I wonder, How the hell did I do that?

Thanks for that. I'm on Windows though.

I catalogue my own images using keywords, but it's becoming clunky now. I've used Bridge but it kept freezing. I've downloaded DigiKam and might give it a go. I use DaVinci Resolve Studio for cataloguing video, along with my own system, and it's working at the moment. The Bins system, being increased in ability steadily, isn't intended for that, but if it works OK, I'm happy.

Thanks again for the heads up. If DigiKam exhausts me, I might give abeMedia, which is similar in format toe Neofinder, a go and for £30 it's worth a try.
