I'm fascinated that they don't collide - do you think there can be some sort of automatic collision avoidance system?

I'd say probably not, judging by the dead ones on the runway!

How on earth do they keep track of which plane they are flying, when they all look the same?

I used to enjoy slope soaring from a clifftop. A few of us has those "indestructable" foam wing things, wrapped in different colour tape. Even with those, I once lost track of which one I was controlling and crash landed.
I thought I was still up in the air, when my mate pointed out that it was his glider I was watching, and mine was a few hundred feet away on the ground.

That's another good question - one blink and you've lost it in the melee.

I'm impressed by the one which is flying very low on a wingtip, stutters, hits the ground but just bounces and keeps on flying!
