TBH that's a real "how long is a piece of string" question. Without some approximate indication of the ££ involved it's very hard for anyone to comment.

I'd suggest you have a click around the many retirement threads in this finance forum and then see if you have any questions to put on the table. You'd certainly get an initial steer from here, even if you still feel you need an IFA a d deciding what level of IFA advice you need.

Pension wise is a free service, might be worth talking to them first.

I'd simply ask why limit yourself to Leicestershire? I get some people simply prefer face to face contact but in purely professional terms of "ability to do what you need them to do" I don't think that would do anything other than restrict the choice you have.

Vouched for and unbiased will give you a list of IFA’s in the area but not all may be as independent as you would think so you need to look at each of their websites carefully.
But as the other replies , unless you want to meet f2f ( which of course might well be the right thing to do ) it’s about the quality of the individual chosen - zoom and the like can be used for great effect these days.

Hopefully you're seeking one off paid-for advice rather than having the IFA take over management of your retirement savings.

I have a brilliant lady I’ve used for years on the Derbyshire/Leicestershire border. Drop me a pm or email and I’ll connect you. dale@pureprotect.co.uk

try putting all your pensions and finances into AI asking for a UK tax efficient drawdown strategy.
I've been impressed after spending time refining the requests, be interesting to compare to what the IFA says.

We have done that, using both chatgpt and Claude.
There may be some degree of confirmation bias, but it pretty well nailed our situation and current plans.

To the OP - we went to a free “retirement seminar” a year or three before I stepped away.
Clearly a sales thing, but a nice afternoon tea in a nice spot (Winstanley House, since you are Leicestershire based!).
It confirmed we didn’t feel the need to engage with them.
A strange amount of focus on “how will you fill your 21 slots - morning, afternoon, evening 7 days a week)”.
It was then I realised not everyone had as lively a social circle as us hehe
One guy scribbled “golf” all across his boxes (yes, they got us to fill in some A4 with 21 boxes!).

OP - maybe share the IFA you selected for others to benefit from, if you are impressed with them. Add the key things they are doing for you.

Let me know how things go. I am in a similar position and would like a recommendation rather than just use unbiased.com as it's matched me with The Private Office.

fk that; the whole point of retirement is that you don't have to fill slots! How unutterably tedious.

Oh, agree totally…..but I have seen how some people are so focussed on their life BEFORE retirement that they don’t/can’t visualise it AFTER.
So I get his reason for doing that little “exercise”.

That makes sense. A breakfast Zoom meeting every day to discuss policy for a genetically inclusive vegetable plot nuts

There's an idea for a new version of 'The Good Life'...
