Police car crash A66 - Multiple deaths
Discussion
This doesn’t sound good. Very little to go on at the moment, but I’m sure it will provoke much discussion.
Very sad for all involved.

5 of the dead were in the Passat which was travelling the wrong way. I really hope this is not the same situation as the wrong way crash last week in Ireland.

Car involved in A66 collision was driving the 'wrong way', police say
The Volkswagen Passat was travelling the wrong way down the A66 when it hit a police vehicle, police have said.
Seven people have died in the crash, including two police officers, Cleveland Police said.
"The Passat was travelling the wrong way along the A66 and collided with a police vehicle that was travelling on the same road in the right direction," the force said.
Cleveland Police said they are still working to identify all of the occupants in the Volkswagen.
"Sadly, all occupants of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene," police said.
From news reports and press releases it would seem this is the likely chronology of events
1 vehicle seen acting suspiciously
2. Police try to stop vehicle
3. Vehicle fails to stop and pursuit starts
4. Vehicle enters dual carriageway and travels against the traffic on the wrong carriageway
5. Not known if police followed vehicle on wrong carriageway or pursuit terminated
6, vehicle collides head on with a police vehicle travelling on dual carriageway in correct direction
7. Five dead in suspect vehicle and two In Police vehicle it hit
Horrible event

This is utterly heartbreaking.
I’m totally oblivious to this type of thing, but it appears this ‘wrong way’ driving down a carriageway is happening more recently.
Is it to make an escape easier from the police. or as I briefly read on the other thread ‘for kicks’?
I just can’t comprehend.

I'm no expert, but as I understand it, driving the wrong way down a dual has been a thing of those not wishing to stop for police for some time.... because if they do the police have to stop the pursuit as risk level too high for all road users.I m totally oblivious to this type of thing, but it appears this wrong way driving down a carriageway is happening more recently.

Yeah I understand that, as totally moronic as it is, but I’m sure I read that it was a TikTok trend at the moment, filming This type of thing. Unless I’ve made that up in my head.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
