I know this might be a stupid question, but is there a certain way you act when buying on ebay?

For example, as soon as I win an item and get confirmation I pay for it with as little time lag between the winning and paying as possible. I like to think this makes it easier for the seller as well. Is it just me that does this?

I've just sold 7 items within the past hour, and so far I have only received one payment, which was for the last item to sell. It makes me nervous that the bidders were fraudulent or something and that i'll hve to relist the items. Am I getting paranoid?

Like you, I pay for items as soon as possible, and since I normally monitor the end of each one, I pay immediately. If course, sometimes it's not possible to see the end of an auction, and it being Saturday night, I would imagine lots of people might be away from their computers. If I was in your position, I'd only start to get concerned by maybe Tuesday.

no mate, im the same, as soon as i win something i pay for it.

i sold some lego models in the summer, around 8 and i think only 1 person paid instantly.

thing is i think a lot of people, just bid the highest and dont come back to it, unlike people who keep constantly bidding to the last minute, who are then around to pay, the others do it in a day or so.

took a good few days to get all the payments for the lego models, did make £260 though, net profit around £190, which paid the deposit on my car!

I agree, I normallty pay Asap but i think you got to remeber not everyone is near a pc all the time so you may have to wait until they get into work Monday morning
I am still waiting for something that was won nearly two weeks ago, and they have been so rude not to have even called me to arange pick up and payment( i asked them too many a time) but they sent a few texts... Going to offer the item to the next highest bidder soon.
I think if you look through the e-bay rules, 7 days is normal a good time to wait for contact from buyer/seller.

Well I've invoiced all my buyers. Still only one payment. Can I ask how you got £260 for 8 lego figures? Seems a bit steep for some plastic, or were they special editions or something?

I usually do the same when I have won something, If I sell an item i invoice the buyer aSAP. I don't expect payment within nano-seconds of the auctiion finishing, as some people may be out or away from their computer when the auction finishes. For example some companies I.T. depts. have blocked Ebay because too much companty time is being wasted on internet trawling.
I do expect payment within the time frame stipulated on my auctiion, within reason. sometimes i let it pass a couple of days then send a reminder email.99% of the time any latness is down to unforseen circumstances & can be overcome very quickly. In the rare event of a serious problem then i try all avenues before I post -ve feedback.
Some people are far to eager to post -ve feedback which spoils it for others if there has been a genuine problem.

From my own experience there's 2 types of winners ....

1: Those who have a vague interest in the item and place a bid up to a maximum that they think it's worth, if they win it great - if not - no big great loss.

2: The KEEN one - who desperately wants the item and will sit and watch it for the last hour or so, ensuring their bid is highest.

Those in group 1 typically only check their email/ebay stuff every few days.

Those in group 2 pay up immediately, or at least confirm immediately.

The unpredicable ones are the newbies ..... they cause me no-end of grief. They win - then never pay up - or it takes a month to get a cheque from them . Problem is you can't exclude them - as we've all been newbies ....

I did that for 3 days when I was desperate to get my gamepod

Know what you mean about newbies, I've had one bid from someone with 0 feedback and one from someone with just 1 piece of feedback. They are the ones that worry me. I currently have 16 pieces of feedback, all +ve. Just hope these buyers don't mess me around.

I got my gamepod for just under £350 IIRC. However, at that time they were being sold for just over £500 inc VAT, but not inc P+P, so I svaed myself a smidge under £200. I was so chuffed.

Its worth it, but I still wish I could afford the leather version

At the end of all our descriptions we now add that all folks with 5 or less feedback must contact us first, other wise we'll cancel their bid.

I must confess we don't cancel bids, as we feel that it would put off the real messers. We do get emails from newbies which is ok.

One newbie bought 2 plates from us. She struck us as "odd" from the outset with the mails we were getting from her.

Anyway - she won the auction, [eventually] paid, so we sent the 2 plates ...... and that was that. Until we got neutral feedback that one of the plates arrived broken. That was it.

If I won something and it arrived damaged in any way I would have emailed the seller immediately demanding a refund - but this one we had nothing whatsoever. We even emailed her when we saw the feedback saying that we'd happily refund, no questions asked, on proof of damage in transit. Suffice to say we've not had a reply - and that was about 3 weeks ago

510 feedback - 508 ultra-positive - 1 negative and 1 neutral. The negative was from a complete and utter imbecile who clearly did not read the description of the item - where we VERY clearly stated that the item was scratched. His negative feedback .... "the item was scratched".

And breathe .....

All the sellers I've delt with have been very understanding. I bought a Siemens SL65 off someone described as good condition, got it and it was scratched to hell. I got a 100% refund, sent the tiem back but still lost £20 for p+p. Was a bit annoyed, but at least I got a refund. Checked a week later, and the woman had sold it to someone else, exact same description as in good condition.

Just looked at how much I'm being charged for selling this stuff:
£9.99 listing fee
£6.11 final value fee
Paypal charges for getting money, e.g. 55p on £7.99
Paypal charges on TRANSFERRING MY MONEY TO MY BANK ACCOUNT of 25p if its less than £50, or free if I transfer more than £50!

Thieving b@st@rds!

I sold 8 items last Sunday, all Paypal only

2 paid on Sunday
3 on Monday
1 on Tuesday
1 send cash in the post on Thursday
1 hasn't paid yet but has made contact.

Fairly typical spread I think.

I always pay on the day I win, (if I am at home)

As said above, some buyers are keener than others.

What ever i buy on ebay i like to wrap things up as soon as possible and today i drove over to Sarf London Suburbia and actualy passed an "Arcacia Avenue" ,My purpose was to pick up 8 volumes of 'Look&Learns' and because of their wieght found it just as easy to pick them up straight from the buyer rather than let the postal service handle what would end up being a very expensive duty.

A lovely couple that i felt at home with as soon as i met,who even made me a cup of Rosey, they were packing and selling a lot of items due to their imminent down sizing to the Kent countryside,on completion of the deal they made known that the stack of books 'over there' were for sale aswell and after ogling through the covers of some 40 hardbacks another deal was struck.

During my journey i spied 2 ferraris,1 Galladro,an AEC Routemaster,MACK truck, and several oldies driving in the Autumn sun but nothing as old as the inscription of the year found in several of the covers of my interesting reads(1880),a great day!.
