Old new car - should I buy it.?

Hello all,
…. my first post on PH, so apologies if all is not as expected.


I have found for sale an unsold ‘brand new’ Peugeot 5008 (actually, there are three), build year 2023; at what seems to be a very good price. However, the car is in Singapore and only shows 12km of driving. It still has the factory bodywork wrappers and the plastic seat covers on. It is the Allure Premium version, and with a full Panoramic opening/sliding roof and front heated seats.


With all import duties, VAT, customs fees, delivery and licensing, etc; the total cost to me would be around £16,500 - providing nothing untoward or unexpected were to be found.


That’s where my question lies.
Given the fact that the car has ‘stood idle’ (practically) for over three years, would this be a wise buy, or a car to definitely dismiss …. or perhaps a maybe, if ….???


(The car has the 1.2 PureTech ‘wet belt’ engine.)

Not being funny but with that particular engine I wouldn't pay 16 pence for it.

My first thought was "wind up"....but I'm coming round to the thing that it's possible you are serious here.

I'll be amazed if anyone here tells you to go ahead, it's total madness.

If you have that amount of money to spend on a car buy one closer to home at that price.

Even if it wasn't a Peugeot with a Puretec engine, I'd avoid a "new" car which has been stood 3 years. That in itself is suspicious - why wasn't it sold soon after it was manufactured? etc etc. Also I'd avoid a grey import from Singapore when supply is plentiful in the UK and its not a rare/desirable car. So its a 3x NO from me.

It will always be an import, with a KM Speedo. Similar age 5008s with less than 10k are a bit over £20k. I'm not convinced this is the bargain it appears.

I’ve owned 2 cars with welt belt engines , first one I changed the car at 94,000 apx , present one is on nearly 92,000 .
