Lap Top Charging

Hi again,
Acer lap top about 5 year old(?) been well used but it has everything I need. It's getting to the stage where the plug in jack to socket is temperamental, assume wear in either the socket or the plug or cable immediately next to plug.
I can buy a new lead, can I get a new socket and solder it in?
Is there an alternative that I can use maybe via one of the USB sockets? (Yeh, probably a stupid question but worth asking )

Most laptops made within the last 7 or 8 years will accept a charge via the usb C port ( if it has one)

Open it up and see if it's anything obvious, it might be an easy fix or the battery fubar.
Of course if this really is a 'need new shiny' thread then off you go to the new computer emporium 🙂

If you're happy to potentially DIY solder a new jack, I'd type your laptop part number and "power jack" into YouTube to see if there's a video to follow, just as a reference more than anything.

The charging port should be available as a replacement part and will not require soldering. You should only need a small screwdriver with a selection of small bits ( possibly torx )
I have replaced a few over the years and it is an easy job. OEM parts are not expensive, but cheaper third-party options are available if you search.

OP, I've got an Acer laptop that's quite a bit older than yours.

I previously had to replace the charging port. As somebody else has already mentioned, this was an easy job with no soldering required for my particular model.

However, the power adaptor (the 'brick' which is part of the power cable) has also been replaced a couple of times. These seem to be prone to failure, so that could be your issue.

Replacement socket ordered BUT it looks like a break in the thin cable between transformer and machine.
Genuine item £32, ebay one £10, worth the extra, buy cheap buy twice (or thrice)?

Might be a stupid question but you did try a proper laptop USB C charger? My machines will only accept a charge via usb c if it's over 15v, a normal phone charger won't do

In fairness no, used the lead that will do high speed phone charging (20w)? but have read the A515 54 Aspire wouldn't charge that way
