Been away for a few years scratching a few itches, but now coming back to a Chim - first job will be to modify or change the exhaust to get more V8 sounds! What is the current advice on achieving this without costing me an arm or jeapordising the MOT - the louder the better!

What exhaust is currently fitted?

If it's the factory exhaust the common approach is to sleeve the silencer, which is inexpensive and even less if you have a welder. You can check to see if it's already been done by looking for a weld line around it. Search these forums there's plenty on the subject, mine was done prior to me owning the car and I thought it sounded s**t, and grew really tiresome on longer journeys, but each to their own.

Other than that you start stepping into the realms of replacements such as Cherry Bombs, Clive F etc etc and those are £££

I did a sleeved exhaust on my first Griffith, it was LOUD but sounded agricultural. TVR did (very few) sport exhausts with half length middle box. I had one on one of my cars, was nice. I put two cherry bombs on my Chimaera and that was perfect. You can order them in different lengths and from memory mine were 10" long. Not too expensive or that difficult to do.
