New A45 S Incomming - tips and advice please

Hi all, I’ve finally stopped looking and ordered a new A45 S today which is due in October.

I’m just wondering if there is any advice from those in the know about running in, general behaviour of the car and living with it.

Mine is just 1 year old and I have done 11k now. First Mercedes and I do love it. I have had fast cars before (R32, S4) this is stupid in comparison and to me definitely a gateway drug to more AMG madness.

- Get front end ppf, it only needs to see a stone and there is a chip!
- Obviously be prepared for more frequent trips to fill up. I average 29.4 mpg as I do a lot of motorway cruising, but it s the 50 litre tank which is a PITA.
- I got 10k out of my front tyres, I know of others who have had less.
- Join the AMG Private Lounge for meets etc. I have only done one, but missed a few good ones.
- MB service centre is a step down from sales department, like most manufacturers.
- Do the complimentary Owner Experience at MB World. I enjoyed it, as have others I have spoken to.

Biggest thing is to enjoy it every chance you can. You must have got one of the last ones produced.

I was going to get mine ceramic coated but after what you ve said I m going to get the front end ppf as well. Thanks for the tip.

I think mine is one of the last. It was the last black one showing on the Mercedes new car site and has now showing car unavailable when I try to configure a black one. The sales man said it was the last on the system and was probably right. It should be with me mid October and looking forward to it a lot.

Getting 415 BHP from an engine of only 2 litres obviously means that everything has been stretched and pushed to the absolute max. I wouldn't put any money on its longevity....

Now there's an expression I've not heard for several decades. Somebody will be along in a minute to recommend an oil change at 500 miles and then every 3,000 miles thereafter.

Just drive sensibly for the first 1,000 miles, not revving the nuts off it and not labouring the engine in too high a gear. Labouring is worse than revs.

Yeah, there’s a sticker on the drivers side of the screen about keeping it below a certain rev level for I think the first 1k miles. They don’t stipulate a running in service, but it is on an annual schedule unlike most modern cars,

You mean you dont need a bit of cardboard taped to the back that says "Running In - Please Pass" anymore?

There's a Jasper Carott joke about his mother in law pulling the choke out and hanging her handbag on it!

I can assure you truthfully that my mother in law did exactly that when she visited us having driven 20 miles in that mode in her 100E. When I questioned her she blatently commented that she thought that was what it was for! Her driving was dreadful, I cannot understand how she ever passed her test, she went on to have many a bump during her time fortunately non of which involved any other car; she repeatedly pushed the front out of the garage wall.
