Took my Elan M100 to a place to get a geometry check done after I realised the front suspension was missing it's camber plates. The suspension set up can be altered by camber shims being moved front to back (or vice versa) and different camber plates being installed where the bolt holes are offset differently. I bought some mid range camber plates just to have something installed so I had a starting point.

Now the place had Hunter alignment equipment and had the settings for the car, although they said 'we don't alter shims and camber plates' ?? So basically they would only do the toe on my vehicle but give me a print out of current settings.

They altered the toe a little which must have brought the camber just into tolerance . But my caster is out by a degree, should be +1° instead of the zero it currently is. Now I know from the workshop manual that each shim I can move makes half a degree difference so moving two shims would make the difference (I think ) to +1° of caster angle . Now I know the guy said to me that altering one setting can have an affect on the other settings - so is this going to screw up the others significantly ?

Or is all this negligible on a road car and not worth chasing it ?

(We couldn't make any changes to the rear settings due to rusty bolts/nuts - so that's for another day)

Any input appreciated - thanks.
