We’re occasional cruisers, our first was Christmas 2017 to Denmark/Norway on P & O Aurora, we did the Canaries on P & O in 2021 and last year went Cunard Queen Victoria to Spain and Portugal.

My wife and I are looking at options to get away this Christmas and a cruise is one of them.

I’ve always fancied going through the Panama Canal just to see the engineering and construction and there’s a 15 day cruise on Caribbean Princess leaving Fort Lauderdale on the 15th December which goes around the Caribbean and includes the canal, it only goes up to the Gatun Lakes and back down again though.

Another holiday I’ve found is a bit different, Music Cities of the Deep South Tour, on 14th December you fly to Memphis for 3 nights, take a tour around Graceland then the Music Hall Museum and Hall of Fame, then it's Amtrak to New Orleans for 2 nights with a Riverboat trip, next is fly to Miami for 2 nights then onto Virgin Scarlet Lady out to Cozumel and Bimini for six days with Christmas Day at sea.

There’s a similar alternative tour leaving on the 16th which ends with Brilliant Lady as the cruise ship and goes to Puerto Plata and Bimini.

Thoughts on the choice of trip as well as on the ships would be appreciated from anyone who’s been on them. We’re leaning towards the Virgin one at the moment as it's just a bit different.

For background information we are in our mid seventies but we’re young at heart and enjoy doing different things, we’re well travelled, have sailed, skied and scuba dived a lot but are just getting a bit old to do much of that sort of stuff these days.
