Two weeks wait to see if my transgression was immortalised on film - speedo was reading 79, so should scrape into "close but no cigar" territory biggrin

Pop a gps on yer bike and see what 79 on the speedo actually is.

at that speed bike speedos can over read by quite a bit depending on what you are riding.

Ah well remember the 2mph after % is at the discretion of the local law enforcement agency.

I'd honestly not lose any sleep over it. Apart from not being much over the limit, Last 5 or 6 years:

- seen a hidden camera van too late - was coming to the end of a 20 and increased to 28 ish for the last hundred yards or so. Saw van, too late I assumed. No ticket. Indicated 28 in a Yeti is prob 25.

- Seen a motorway bridge van too late (always too late if you see them I assume). Anchors on. Was doing around 85. No ticket.

- Mrs drove trhough a fixed camera and it flashed. No ticket.

If discretion means “always” then yes…

A lot of the A38 has a limit lower than 70, especially in Cornwall.

In a similar position but the A299 in Kent, wasn't showing on Waze however I was likely in the ~90mph range. 1 week down, another to go!

If you’re on a bike then an indicated 79 will be about 70 IRL. My 2017 R1 and 2022 T700 both over read horrendously, that might just be a Yamaha thing.

78mph real life and you should be ok. 79 is a NIP - as I found out personally.

The general rule for those authorities who apply it is that they start prosecuting at speed limit plus 10% plus 2mph.
So a real 78 in a 70 you might be ok, 79 you probably won't.

I got done a few years back for 57 in a 50 in road works on the A1. I would have escaped at 56 mph.

20 years on PH or whatever and not one single person has posted up a ticket below that threshold.

TX.

I got done for 78mph on the M25 back in 2010 and did post a photo of the ticket on here at the time.

This was an in-person pull over though, would likely be filtered out by a scamera
