Brainstorming Potential New Truck / SUV / Vehicle
Discussion
Disclaimer : I have no idea what I want, I'm not really looking for an answer, more some hive mind inspiration of things I might not have even thought about or considered, so bare with me please and thank you.
I've just turned 40, and was always intending to treat myself with an M5 as I've always loved them and it's been a poster car, however now that I can, I just don't really want to for some reason. Maybe it's never meet your heroes, maybe I'm just moving on around what I want. I'm fortunate to have a workshop / unit to play in and maintain our cars and we've got a good spread of stuff generally, so I don't "need" anything as such, however I'm wanting to move on my leggy old F11 5 series touring which is our sort of fall back family / dog car and get a new daily for myself.
I grew up in rural northumberland and learnt to spanner on RRC's and P38's into my 20's so I've been looking at L405's, however unless you're spending fortunes they seem to be either really low spec or just wear quite badly on the inside which has put me off, L322's seem a better car to be honest, although age and rust is a factor now.
In an entirely unrelated twist I recently collected a Fiat Panda 169 for another project and in the day I was driving that about I really enjoyed it and remembered how nice simple cars used to be.
This has basically sent my head spiralling and now I'm thinking that I'd quite like to get a good size family SUV / truck that's going to be fairly simple to maintain with a good aftermarket support that I can buy and basically run for a good 10 years. I'm thinking no DPF's, EGR's, or even petrol to be fair.
Ideally I'd like fuel economy to be in the 20's and not under, but apart from that I'm not too fussed. If it was a truck I'd need to be able to get a back for it to stick the dogs in.
I think I'm probably shortlisting at the moment, early petrol L322's, possibly Disco 3 / 4, Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol maybe?
Is there anything obvious I'm not considering?
