40th Birthday - Omega Aqua Terra?

Ok, so having officially hit middle age, I'm treating myself (with contributions from friends and family) to a proper watch. For context, my daily driver has been Stainless Casio w51 for years though I've recently dabbled in the world of automatics with a Seiko diver, and have a Chris Ward quartz too.
Anyway, an Omega takes my fancy, and my research so far indicates that a Omega Aqua Terra is probably a good balance between price, looks, and practicality. The automatics strike me as potentially the BMW E46 of the watch world - classic, about 20 years old, and prone to unexpected servicing bills. I understand there are certain versions of the Mk1 movement to watch out for.
I plan on getting a fair bit of use out of this, but with various other financial commitments coming up (cough, E46, cough) I'm keen to keep it around £2k, 2.5 max.
Question is, is quartz a sensible way to go at that price point, or will I live to regret not spending a bit more on a mechanical? Or any alternatives I've missed?
