What to replace a Yeti with??

First thing to say is that I love my Yeti!! It's decent to drive, quick enough (1.8tsi), very practical with a surprising amount of space inside and looks funky. It's also a bit battered so I don't care about launching it into ditches and hedges on the narrow lanes round here.

But it's 15 years old and has had a series of more or less minor work needed. One of which at the start of the year was fairly major engine fault and in hindsight I should have scrapped it then.

And now the DMF is getting more grumbly and the fan pack has an intermittent fault. And it still has an intermittent EML as the used top end I got seems to need one camshaft doing.

But I really like it. Which is annoying!

Any replacement needs to fit 4 6ft people (biggest son is 6'5") and a bit of ground clearance and 4x4 is handy. It'd be handy if it could tow 750kg unbraked. MrsBill has an SMax for family duties and I'm enjoying having a smaller car after years of driving the big family 4x4.

Obvious answer is a newer Yeti, but they don't look as funky...

If you really like it that much and its going to cost a packet to replace why not spend the money on getting it where you want it. Plenty of people spend good money keeping rusty old BMWs and the such on the road, why not do the same with the Yeti?

TBH that's pretty much what I'm thinking but before I do that I want to make sure I've checked other options.

(I'm also having interesting thoughts about VRS/Golf R engine swaps...)

Dacia Duster?

You could always find the newest lowest mileage Yeti available, although I believe 2017 is about the layest so still 11 years old.

Or Dacia Bigster, looks like the mild hybrid 4x4 version can do 750kg unbraked. My next door neighbour has one and it’s a cool looking thing.

Agreed. Last of the late Yeti. But blimey they’re fetching bonkers money.Just avoid anything sunroof related.
I bought into a late low mileage 2016 diesel a couple of years ago. Was supposed to be a stop gap.

Octavia Scout? Less funky than a Yeti but can fit an adult in the back with a >6' driver and the scout gets more ground clearance than a standard Octavia and 4x4. Longer than a Yeti though.

V70XC?

RAV4 is about a foot longer than a Yeti but still not huge, with a decent amount of space inside and Toyota reliability.

I'd probably go with the Skoda Kodiac if I was going bigger. But a bit new/expensive. Maybe in 5-10 years! But I'm hoping to be in a 2-seater by then.

They're all getting a bit estate sized.

Sorry to be constantly negative, but I thought/looked long and hard at options before getting the Yeti and it's a high bar!

Yeah I know what you mean. I think the Duster is one of the best suggestions so far. I believe the Maverick and Terrano II were based on the older version of the Duster so similarish size.

Mini is definitely too small, I tried one before getting the Yeti. Suspect the X1 is as well.

Yeah I'm wrong, I remembered that from somewhere but it appears it was a different Terrano for the Indian market.

If you tried a Countryman 15 years ago there are 2 newer and bigger variants now.
