Will Porsche win in 2006?
Discussion
Having seen the brand new Porsche RS Spider trounce the opposition in the LMP2 class in it's 1st race in the ALMS at Laguna Seca yesterday, my question is will the Porsche have a chance of an overall win at Le Mans in 2006?
The car ran for 4 hours at Laguna Seca and was mixing it with the LMP1 cars for all of the 4 hour race.
The RS is being run by Penske Racing and was running in the DHL colour scheme.

Could this be the new Audi R8?

In a word, yes!
With 17 (I think) outright race wins to their name they are pretty damn well qualified to come up with a winner. A few extra thoughts on the subject.
I have found the last few years’ races as dull as bloody ditch water and there is a huge need to get more works or at least works supported team back into the race and in a category that can go for an outright win.
Nissan and Mazda are surely due a proper return and I can’t help bunch think that Uncle Henry’ would get much better value out of Jaguar racing in sports cars than the abortive F1 program.
For this to happen though there needs perhaps to be more of a unified sports car racing series than currently exists, this of course has been the biggest problem for years now. Since the FIA (or whoever it was) lost interest after the collapse of the 3.5 litre formula in the early nineties there has been a huge void which has only ever been partly filled
You only have to look at the enduring appeal of classic Group C to see there is a huge untapped market for full blown sports cars and I’m not talking about a handful of asthmatic parts bin specials that have made up Le Mans grids in recent years.
To have Porsche back at Le Mans with a genuine chance of winning could at least act as a catalyst for other manufacturers return which on its own must be a damn good thing

There wont be a 'Team porsche' but it looks like there will be a team running the cars probably with Very Strong factory backing, aslong as they are reliable they will win the LMP2 class!! so that will be 2 class victories for porsche next year!!
