car Servicing New (to me) scare tactic
Discussion
Received an email from a main dealer this morning, letting me know my car is due a service... It's not.
But I need to take it to the dealer, in their opinion as it my car will be legal then it states come here and adhere to warranty and legal requirements
Now I know this is all marketing, but it certainly lays it on a bit thick
Anyone else had this type of persuasion

Sounds normal. It s so they can tell you your tyres are down to 6 mm and should be changed and your brake pads and discs are near to the end of their life despite only being 3 years old and covered 15000 miles etc etc. Just standard upselling nonsense.
By ‘upselling nonsense’ do you mean fraud? When I phoned up last time to book in an interim oil change (as BMW's interval is too long in my opinion), they refused to book me in because the car didn't need it. So I took it to a non-franchised garage instead.
Then, a week later, I got a call to say my car needed a service. But when I asked which service was required, they said they didn't have that information and would I like to book it in for them to scan the key to see what was required.
I might have replied with a simple expletive.
They'll be using the 'legal' term very broadly, as they'll simply mean that if your car is not maintained properly it could become unroadworthy and thus 'illegal' to drive on the road.

Not that but my in-laws took their car to the Volvo dealer for a parking sensor and they said they'd perform a complimentary health check.
Came to pick it up and we're charged £15 for it. Since when did complimentary not mean free. It's only there to drum up business anyway.

Was that not for the sensor though ?Came to pick it up and we're charged £15 for it. Since when did complimentary not mean free. It's only there to drum up business anyway.
You can check on line if it's a recall action.
https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-recall
Otherwise any service will be as per schedule. BMW will show the due service date or mileage in the instrument cluster on start up

I had a similar experience with a MINI dealer when they wanted to carry out a lower-arm service on my GP3, which had only done 11,000 miles from new.
They’d already carried out an oil service, and I had the inspection video showing that all the bushes and everything else were perfectly fine. Despite that, they refused to turn the service light off unless I agreed to the lower-arm work.
The service manager wasn’t there, so I had to deal with the assistant service manager, who, quite frankly, had never stepped foot in a workshop in her life. She was like a bulldog and absolutely f***ing useless.
Eventually, they turned the light off, but that was the last time I ever set foot in that MINI dealer in Canterbury.
Three weeks later, we bought the wife’s new MINI JCW from another MINI dealer instead.
And just to add insult to injury, they wanted over £1,000 for the lower-arm service. Absolute scumbags.
