Has anyone experience of these or can anyone suggest an alternative? I need to replace my old standard one.

Waste of time; stick with Mann / Mahle or Hengst filter and just swap it out yearly

I ran K&N, ITG and similar filters in previous E39s; expensive for what they are and they make no difference

The 'performance' filters can work in some edge-case scenarios, but for the other 99.9% of use case a standard paper/cotton/fibre/polymer one works fine...and has the added benefit of being relatively cheap if you feel you need to replace it every 5000 miles.
