Pelagos LHD & Options

Hi,

I'm very much a one watch man - tend to buy one, use it everyday for everything and hopefully never sell it.

Clearly I'm not great at the last bit as I have just sold my BlackBay 58 after 5 years of good wear. Loved it, super comfy but the faux patina started to grate and more importantly, I think I need a date. I've also got quite big wrists and it did look a bit weedy.

I've wanted a Submariner forever but having picked a Tag Carerra Chronograph over one 20 years ago (don't ask!) I was somewhat shocked to see the list price of a Date one knocking on for £10k. I love them but I just don't see them as a £10k watch. For reference the sub was £2300 when I last looked at them

What are your thoughts on a LHD Pelagos? I'm right handed but I like the idea of the crown not digging into my hand when playing golf, and I also like the red lettering on it. Circa £3k second hand seem like a really good buy. Is the LHD thing a bit weird? Can't say i've come across it elsewhere and it's the first I've seen of it. Don't dislike it though and it's a bit different

Open to any other suggestions the hive mind might have?

Big wrists, how about a 52mm..

The LHD Pelagos is nice. Just make sure you look at all the Pelegos variants first as there are lots of subtle differences that may interest you.

As an interesting alternative I'd also advise you to consider the Sinn u50. There are some very interesting options within the Sinn catalogue of dive watches including oil filled watches for extreme depth resistance, tegimented steel (basically surface hardening), bracelet options. For large wrists there are larger case diameters. Very cool alternative to everyman Tudors or Rolexes.

Pelagos LHD is a great watch, though maybe made more sense for me as a 'right wrister'. In addition to the whole LHD-ness of it, the little touch of the roulette date wheel (alternating dates in red and black text) added to the fun. Being Tudor, it's all great quality and back when I got mine in 2018, very good value for money - As you're looking used you'd be able to get one from when it came with both a bracelet and rubber strap. Sadly, I moved mine on a while back

It's a lovely watch. I much preferred it to the Sub I had at the time (hulk) as it was simply much more comfortable largely due to the weight - it's titanium. Makes a big difference day to day, at night etc

Plus the lovely touches like the roulette wheel date, slightly patenaed dial markers, single line red pelagos line. Kind of a best hits of Subs past 40 years. Just a much more interesting and wearable alternative to any maxi dial sub these days (at a fifth of the price too). Well that's my opinion.

I regret selling, but will buy another (and a black bay dark !)
