Battery Vent Plug

Mr. Google got me nowhere.
New Yuasa battery, I'm convinced that the plug in the pictures should be removed. It came out very easily and is quite flimsy.
When I have had batteries with vent plugs previously there have been clear instructions that they should be removed but nothing in the accompanying document or on the Yuasa website. A recent Reddit thread had varying opinions but I suspect there was a bit of trolling going on, the trolls were insisting that it should be retained.
Whatever, I've removed it but I'm interested on what the forum thinks.
I'm now arguing with a well known online battery retailer about the failure of the 4 month old battery. No parasitic leak found following a (lengthy & not inexpensive) test by a good auto electrical company.

You are correct to remove it good old google says as below
plus I bought a new battery for my x type recently and was told remove red breather , the battery needs to breathe

Vent Plug RulesEngine Bay Location: If your Yuasa battery sits in an open engine bay, remove transit plugs from both sides (or ensure the built-in labyrinth/side vents are clear) so the battery breathes freely to the atmosphere
Boot or Cabin Location: If the battery is mounted inside the vehicle interior or boot, insert a blanking plug into one vent hole and connect your vehicle's flexible rubber extraction/breather pipe to the other vent hole.Never Seal Both Sides: Never leave red transit caps fully blocking an active vent side during use, as trapped hydrogen gas build up can cause the casing to rupture or explode.
