2027 shorter races

Just seen this at the bottom of the BBC sport website, races will be 15km shorter in 2027 as the cars will use more fuel and they can't change the size of the tanks. Wasn't exactly clear on the F1 app either almost as if they wanted to sneak it past everyone

I thought some of the races have been too short, especially Monza a dot has such a high average speed.

So 2-5 laps shorter. Great, at least the crappy tracks will waste a bit less time of our lives...

I must be getting old, I remember when they’d tell the teams to make the fuel tanks 5% bigger, rather than making the races 5% shorter, but hey ho.

The increased fuel flow rate is of course welcome, to deal with the well-documented issues of this season that are about to be very much on display at Baku, but it seems they’re dealing with the extra fuel problem the wrong way around. 5kg of fuel, about six litres, really shouldn’t be a problem. It doesn’t even affect their environmental bks as it’s all synthetic fuel.

It's more about cost-cutting for the teams. Several of them have stated they want to use the same monocoques again next year, and they can't increase the tank size without redesigning it. This is just another unintended consequence of the rules, in this case the cost cap getting in the way of the stupid energy regs.

Should have brought back refueling, but just a 10litre max refill. Would have made it interesting.
