I expect JW is shedding a small tear at this news.
ATAC are burning through a lot of their Hunters in recent years. I wonder if there are just too many holes in their maintainence teams knowledge of the old girl, as I would think it likely all of them will be ex-USAF or ex-USN people, although I think a few losses were pilot issues, not aircraft failures.
They've lost at least one Mirage F1 as well.....but a shocking amount of Hunters.
Prior to Shoreham, in all the 30-35 years of civilian Hunter ops in the UK, which was a lot of hours and aircrafts, I can only recall the one loss due to a technical issue, and that was the loss of F.6 XF516 over Wales when it suffered total electrical failure and Craig Penrice had to use a MB seat for the second time in his flying career.
The Wally Cubbit T.7 loss over the Peak District may have been an aircraft failure, or maybe have been pilot incapacitation, we'll never know, as it proved impossible to recover most of the aircraft from the deep hole in the ground, or indeed Wally Cubbit.....where he still lies in the remains of his Hunter.
The septics have now lost more in a decade or so, than we lost in 3 decades in the UK.

Yes, your right, just looked it up. John Davies, and yes engine failure, and he tried to land back instead of banging out perhaps, and forced landing didn't go to plan.I did have a vague recollection of another one, but mind was a blank until you mentioned Dunsfold, and the light blub flickered on
Still only 2 confirmed in 35 years of civilian flying due to aircraft failure.....the yanks have lost 3 or maybe 4 times that many in a third of the time.
They will be working them hard though I suspect in comparison.
