Adding oil to a Vantage
Discussion
Pretty sure its 1Litre between min and max on the dipstick so 200ml . I never bothered to top mine up until it was half down the line and put 0.5L in. On years when I did drove 7-10k miles it would need topping up in between services. On years when I only drove 3k miles it never needed a top up.

That agrees with my experience so far. McGurk's told me 'Vantages don't use oil' and that was pretty spot on. Still, I like to check...A Google/AI mode search claimed it was either 1 or 2 litres marked on the dipstick which is why I asked.
I'd love to know how you have so much confidence in general accuracy off the dipstick, I'm fairly fastidious about checking the oil in mine but there's so much potential for variability, did you hold it at the right revs for exactly 20 seconds, did you wait exactly 30 seconds to measure, maybe the first measure wasn't entirely clean/clear so have a second dip, how much time has passed now? Maybe it's just me but whether it's just a regular check or refilling after an oil change I'm very much just ensuring it's in the upper region toward max, but certainly wouldn't bet on being able to get it right to 1/5th accuracy
On the subject of dipsticks, does anyone know when they stopped engraving Castrol on them?

I think you got that backwards as the V8 dry sump between the line is 2L not sure about the V12 but as any regular engine with an oil pan should be 1L betwwen the lines

Which model year is that manual for ?Edited by Handyman2009 on Friday 25th September 12:45
not surprised the AI is doing a search and coming up with confused results when Astons own user manuals are different between editions

I double checked in MY2012.25 4.7 manual I had for my Roadster, page 11.10 at bottom left, 1L from min to max.

Dec 2016 edition of V12S manual says 2L page 12.11 ...I remembered the difference from last time I checked the oil

Min. to Max. is 4 pints
Is it fair to assume that the British habit of creating owner´s manuals under the influence of "pints" can lead to confused results?Or maybe there is a difference between a 4.3l dipstick vs. a 4.7l dipstick? I really have no idea because I am too drunk.
"Glass houses and all that". Cheers!

I've had my V8V for 7 1/2 years and can't ever remember checking the oil!
Do it on my other cars but not on the Aston for some reason.
In my experience, no need to bother, for a few thousand miles a year between services it does not need topping up. Do it on my other cars but not on the Aston for some reason.
I checked my current V12S once in the first 12 months and came to the same conclusion; for the yearly mileage I'm doing its not noticeably using any oil in between services.
Yet official AM docs say "check the oil every 4th tank of fuel or weekly" like they are expecting something to be happening with the oil level ...

The manual was for a 4.3L but it is the same on my 4.7 as they never changed the dry sump tank and the dip stick still looks the same
What year is your 4.7 ? ....before 2012 ? the user manuals from 2012 onwards state 1L min to max on the dipstick so something changed along the way...could have been MY2012.25 when it had a makeover ...could have just been a mistake in the original user manuals and they corrected it from 2012
