Gmail - senders name visible to recipient

I use Gmail with the Apple Mail app on my MacBook and iPhone

When I send an email the recipient see's my real name as being the sender, instead of just my email address.
Is there a way of preventing my name being visible, so they just see my email address instead?

Just ask Google how to change your display name on Gmail but not your email address.

If you can not do it under the account settings in Apple Mail then you could try logging on to gmail through the web page - go to settings then select the Accounts and Import tab. It is under there (I just checked), but whether this will work with a 3rd party client I do not know.

To change the name people see when you email them, while keeping the same Gmail address:
Open Gmail⁠ on a computer.
Click the settings cog at the top right, then See all settings.
Open Accounts and Import (or Accounts).
Under Send mail as, click Edit info beside your address.
Enter the name you want and click Save changes.
Your email address stays the same.
Google says this setting can’t be changed in the Gmail app.
