Sport mode fighting me
Discussion
I've been aware of this a few times. Vanquish 2 6-speed when in Sport mode, sometimes when I take my foot off the accelerator and brake the car doesn't want to slow down as rapidly as normal. It's almost as if the engine is still pulling or the brakes aren't working properly. After a second or two it seems normal. Any explanation for this please?
This phenomenon has been discussed here before, not explicitly for VH3 Vanquish though. But maybe the same or related issue nevertheless?

Interesting, thanks. It only happens in Sports mode, and then only occasionally and only for a moment.
Today's example was when I had to lose 25mph fairly rapidly when a van pulled into my lane unexpectedly. The time before, I was braking to take a fairly sharp corner.
I don't use Sport mode much but if the problem recurs and lasts longer then pressing 'N' seems to be the answer.
The car has never accelerated on its own just when driving along.

Or would selecting Neutral result in engine runaway?
If I remember the article correctly, no. I seem to recall that once the car is in neutral the stability system stops trying to adjust the speed of the wheel with the faulty reluctor ring as it "knows" it no longer has drive to do it, so the engine will drop to idle if there's no throttle. Technically you should be able to stop the car on the brakes, as there should be more stopping power available than the engine can generate, but you'd have 4 litres of turbocharged V8 fighting you all the way.

6 litres of n/a V12 in this instance...I experimented on the way back from a car show today. What actually happens, or happened today, is that when you come off the accelerator and hit the brake, the car does two violent downshifts and it feels as if the surge pushes you along. Could the BR remap done by the previous owner be responsible?

Silly me - no idea why I immediately thought of a 2C car.I experimented on the way back from a car show today. As for the remap causing the problem? Who knows - depends what was done. Is this "push" you experience regular, consistent and repeatable? Or does it seem to vary on the weather, day of the month, how the car feels? I ask because I'd expect an issue created by a remap to behave the same way every time, whereas something like a faulty reluctor would more likely be inconsistent and intermittent
