My new 'Land Yacht' BMW 640i Gran Coupe

I recently sold my BMW G11 740d (thread here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... as my job situation had changed, meaning I wasn't doing as many miles anymore. I was thinking of leasing a car however, there wasn't much out there that really excited me. So I decided to buy something that was exciting. After owning the 7 series, I wanted something similar but with a petrol engine. Being a HUGE BMW fan, I was looking at all sorts and nothing was really ticking the right boxes until..... the perfect car came up!

Welcome to my new to me BMW 640i Gran Coupe. The car came up for sale down south and after reading the advert and looking through the hundreds of photos, a deposit was sent to secure the car and a few days later I went to view it and it was as described, so a deal was done. I collected it this morning and I'm over the moon with it.

So the car:

Its a late 2015 LCI 640i Gran Coupe done 78k miles and has full history with most of it being BMW. It's finished in BMW Individual Moonstone Metallic with a full opal white Merino leather interior. It was originally supplied by BMW Park Lane and has over 22k worth of options! I've never seen one of these with this amount of options.

It's had plenty of love throughout its life including a very recent gearbox oil change as well as major service. I'm going to change the diff oil so all the fluids are fresh.













After looking on 'How many left' it seems there are only 13 registered 640i Gran Coupes on UK roads. I'd love to know how many of those are in Individual Moonstone.

How many left is talking ste, there are 13 x 640i'S on AT right now, and an easy dozen more I can see in Facebook marketplace, with a small search area.

Very few in that gorgeous colour I'm sure, but there really are more than that out there, plenty more not for sale!

That's lovely OP, very nice spec and I often wish mine was an N55'd 6 series, my wife has the engine in her 2 series and it's a real peach.

Another Gran Coupe owner here! Had mine since July and using it as my commuter so doing ~200 miles a week. Thoroughly impressed so far. I need to look up the spec sheet for mine as I'm not sure what the full spec is on mine! haha



I've not driven the 640i but I suspect it goes very well and looks lovely in silver.

I would imagine Howmanyleft is telling porkies about the numbers, there are 9 on Autotrader alone, so I'd imagine there's more than 13 on the road but in any guise, this era seems rare. I don't think I can recall passing another 6 series of this era in mine. They just don't seem to be that common a sight. Which is always nice.

Thanks for the lovely comments. Yeah I must admit I did think 13 was a very small small number given how many there is for sale.

Spent the weekend giving the 6 series a good clean underneath, getting rid of years of thick dirt and grime as well as painting the calipers silver which look so much better than black IMO.









I also gave the engine bay a good detail. Really happy with the results.




Next job is full machine polish and ceramic coating which should finish it off nicely.

Really lovely that. I think the 6 and 8 look so much better with the GC treatment.
