One has failed on our Skoda Karoq as an aside Car. Care Plan only will pay for one to be replaced when the sensible approach would be to change all 4, we will and pay for the extra work.
But that is not the subject I want to talk about .
My son who also has a diesel VAG car similar age to our Skoda ,and has identical failure ,cylinder no 2 .Both cars have the 2l8tr engine from 2018
Is this a coincidence or is there a trend of glow plug failure on cars of this age

It’s normal for vw, they are easy enough to change so just do the one. Some have pressure sensors built in, Nissan are next up for earring glow plugs.

Its not a vag thing , its a common failure among all diesels.
Had to do plenty on mercs vauxhalls, fords, bmws, isuzu, toyota. They are a wear and tear item which is why they are normally piss easy to replace, and cheap, except for the pressure sensor ones. They make your wallet sting.

According to the VAG specialist we spoke to , it is not unknown for the glow plug to seize on place , the failed one on our car is seized ,
