Which weekend V8 up to 35k? - Page 1 - Car Buying

Yesterday (20:09)

Six months ago I sold my weekend toy and it’s time for another.

My longer term plan is Ferrari or McLaren in four years when I retire but I want something now at less budget and am a bit stuck and I know everyone likes a “what car thread”.

Ideally convertible but coupe is also ok and 2 seats is fine.
V8
Auto
Light coloured interior - ivory or cream
Was up to 30k but now upto 35k

Originally list was

Merc SL500 or SL63 AMG
Aston Martin Vantage
Jaguar F type S

Not Porsche- just sold Cayman GTS 4.0
Not a Ford

All of these were under 30k then I started looking at R8’s and some now are in the thirties so that’s also now in the mix.

All have potential for big bills but yolo.

Feel free to shout some suggestions or links to some cars, no doubt ZX10RR will do his normal wizardry on here.

What would you suggest?

I've had a Vantage and liked it a lot, but at that budget it will be pretty old. Not a big deal but as I get older, things like ancient audio connectivity etc annoys me.

In the list you have, Alfa Quadrifoglio would be an option and your budget would get you around 2019.

Good shout, engine is great but doesn’t feel special enough inside for me Dave.

Thanks ZX10, some good ones there. Not considered the gran turismo. The M6 is out as had a 640i back in 2018.

Too many choices, it depends if you want a classic or modern. I own an 05 SL55 and had an 07 V8V, the SL55 was 3x the car for 1/3 the cost. Why limit yourself to a V8 when you can get a V12?

Had ruled out V12 due to budget. It would only be Bentley and Mercedes at that money and don’t really want a CL or a continental.

Is there others I am missing?

Granturismo/Grancabrio was my first thought, but only if it's the facelift as the seats on the original cars are rubbish in terms of comfort/adjustment.

F Type R also worth a sit in, but then I thought I prefer the look of the XKR as per below -

I can't remember the exact date but the facelift cars are easily recognised by the upright oblong DRL in the headlamp and the front seats have a 1-piece backrest, i.e the head restraint is integral to the seat.

I'm in the lower part of the Highlands with older cars and specialists are a nightmare, either booked up 6 weeks in advance (and 1.5 hrs+ away), or turn down work or are useless

So consider the back up plans if going older and you probably know but don't buy anything in Scotland over 5 years old, they all have cancer

It was worth me buying my last car down south and driving up

Anything with a V8 on these quiet roads will be glorious! An Aston would be lovely and a more special as a toy than Jag/Merc

2013 were the post facelifts, quite a few changes inc blips on auto downshifts on the ZF and a different front bumper is also a way to differentiate. Check subframes as they’re made of Italian cheese.

I was in a similar position and wanted a weekend treat with a V8 sound and power however, I needed four seats for young familiy and reasonable boot space. I went for a Mercedes C63 coupe with 4.0 V8 twin turbo and so far its livining up to my expectations very well. I bought it for the noise and drama and it delivers that amazingly well as well as more than enough power. And for moments when I take family away for weekend trips I leave in comfort mode with the switchable exhaust button disabled for a reasonably quiet burble. The pushchair fits in quite easily as well as two child seats.

This will have to do until I'm fortunate enough to be able to treat myself to italian supercar...
