Are you assuming here that all asylum seekers are illegal immigrants too?

There surely must be plenty of legit asylum seekers included in the amounts you quote.

And I am pretty sure that not all illegal immigrants ever get to claim asylum either.

I was in Portugal recently and visited the fort in Sagres. It was free to Portuguese citizens, kids under a certain age, students and OAPs. Everyone else paid 10 Euros. Struck me as a fair way of doing things; if you pay your taxes in the country in question or have a concession, you get in for free. If you don't, you pay the entrance fee.

Of course, in the UK, even thinking of taking this approach would be immediately condemned as being "racist".

Either way, the government should be addressing both issues.
