Tyre replacement found a wheel issue

I recently had a tyre replaced by a local mobile fitter after driving over a giant bolt.

During the replacement he pointed out the wheel needed a lot of weight to balance (40g / 135g), but that he couldn’t see any reason why. No damage or obvious buckle.

The car had been pulling right while driving for a while, but the main dealer couldn’t find any fault.

Any thoughts as to what the issue with the wheel may be, if not obviously damaged or buckled, but pulling to the side without a lot of balance?

Have they had the wheel on the tyre balancer without a tyre on it?

Might be worth finding a place that can do road force balancing? As I understand it the machine works out the best orientation of the tyre on the wheel to minimise the amount of weight needed.

I had vibration problems with my old 530i that persisted even after replacing all the front suspension bushes, road force balancing made a big difference. The fitter did say that he couldn’t get it spot on though. Tyres were either Kumho or Falken iirc. Some vibration remained but was tolerable. Assumed one of the wheels was slightly buckled.

However, when those tyres wore out I replaced them with Goodyear eagles, balanced up on the normal machine and the vibration went completely. Wheel was fine. I think sometimes the tyres are just not made quite right.
