Two young boys were killed when a car thought to be driven by their father overturned in Hampshire.
The boys, aged nine and 11, were declared dead at the scene, but the father was taken to hospital.

The accident happened on the A339 at Ramsdell on Sunday when the Audi A3 car they were travelling in overturned.

Hampshire Police said the car was travelling southbound when the crash happened and it is not thought any other vehicle was involved.

Police said the father was taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Basingstoke.

The blue Audi was travelling towards Basingstoke when the accident happened just before 6pm.

Police have appealed for witnesses.

Deeply saddening. :(

If you look up the A339 at Ramsdell its an odd spot.

How on earth do you have a single car incident there? Its a cross-roads. Normally multiple cars are involved. In fact there are even two speed cameras there - to slow traffic before the hazard - I actually don't have much of a problem with them....but they did nothing to prevent this accident.

We'll never know of course.

See my thread entitled 'Scamerati Logic - A339'...

The local partnership have conceded before the cameras are placed in Headley that they may not work!

Sad... perhaps the driver was taken ill or clipped kerb for some reason? Perhaps he had slow puncture or some other mechanical failure...?

Ist really up to accident investigation - but seem odd kind of accident from the report....und the camera did not prevent it?

Terrible.

If I was the father, I don't think that I'd want to wake up.

How on earth could you live with that?

Hope they were belted in properly.

In the last three years I know of three separate deaths from road accidents from just my school year group.

One was caused by a drunk driver. The other two were late at night around country roads with no other cars involved.

All of the crashes occurred with the car under the speed limit, and none would have been saved by a speed camera.

If they were in the back, sadly in my experience with teenage boys, it's unlikely.

Drove past the scene today, its actually further south than the speed cameras on the brow of the hill before the three lane section. Uphill section leading into slight right hander with no real kerbs so it is on odd place to loose it. My sympathies go out to the family.

Although they weren't teenagers (9 & 11) and we obviously shouldn't jump to conclusions, it makes me sick to see kids jumping around in the back of cars, or even wearing their belts, but without the shoulder strap in position. I suppose the A3 could have been an old(ish) one, but it takes a pretty catastrophic crash for occupants to be killed if they're properly belted in.

Just goes to show. Two young boys with the rest of their lives ahead of them then boom. Gone forever.

Complacency is never a good thing.

Went past the spot in daylight for the first time today (I was a little late) and it's just after the two lane section up the hill heading towards Basingstoke from Newbury. There were no skid marks that I noticed but a large hole in the hedge.
