Hi.

I'm in the process of buying a V8 Vantage, couldn't be more excited. Just been sent this pic of the sat nav cover where a big old phone mount had been stuck, that I'd asked to be removed prior to the sale. The car is in wonderful condition so this is a bit of a problem, looks like it needs replacing to me?

I know the cover itself can quite easily be replaced once the ski slope is out but does anyone know the part number? I think this is the standard gun metal finish (sorry, I'm new to Aston Martin so still getting up to speed). I've seen it priced at something like £1,600 for the gun metal which I'm really hoping I've got wrong. The retailer is also looking into it.

Cheers for any guidance,
Andrew

Is that a mark or is the surface distorted?

My 'guidance' FWIW is if you like everything else about the car and the price is decent, buy it. And if the lid still bothers you afterwards, perhaps you'll find a s/h one on eBay eventually.

Whatever you decide, enjoy getting your first Aston smile

It does look a bit dented.

Search eBay with "aston martin vantage breaking" and there are dozens of listings for all sorts of ages and spec, there's a chance that a few hours hunting might find one.

Is it possibly another Ford/Volvo part?

Edit - another angle. Could a PDR person fix that? £1600 buys a lot of hammer-tapping.

Have a look on astonmartinbits.com for a price on the exact finish. Im pretty sure the £1600 quote is for the entire waterfall centre piece inc nav cover and all parts to fit. I had a new waterwall console piece fitted by dealer a few years ago and it was £850 fitted. I think just the sat nav cover is £450-650 depending on finish.

If the car is otherwise spot on for condition/price/spec then just buy it and sort it out later. Its not a difficult fix.

Thank you. Yeah, the car is otherwise in really nice condition, so definitely First World Problem territory. I'm not sure if the removal of the mount has caused the damage or the mount itself (it was once of those 3D printed mounts covering the leading edge) and stuck on presumably. Maybe it's pulled the metal up from the plastic and could be encouraged flat again.

Could always run with the sat-nav open I supposed.. no, terrible idea.

I'm with Bogie - if that's the only flaw on the car and it's something you want then buy it, enjoy it and just put it at the top of the list of things to fix or improve.

"Thirded" - keep it open and you won't even notice it.

Its not a waterfall out job, in fact Aston Installations in Tewksbury will no doubt be able to sort this out for you and at the same time possibly provide an Apple carplay/Android auto update and put a new plastic gear update in the screen as the slipper clutch in them gets worn so the screen sometimes struggles to rise. The last bit is a cheap fix. If you are handy with these things you should be able to sort it yourself.

Cheers again. Got a few options. Also spoke to Aston Installations. If I find anything useful like part numbers or someone who can refurbish it I'll update.
