After a run in with a particularly unpleasant, physically aggressive (and short) old man...

They explicitly said they were a police officer, and would get someone arrested. Repeated the claims when queried. Said they had a badge at home. Seemed unlikely if only due to their obvious age!

The reality turns out to be that they're an occasional volunteer at the local police hub desk in the community centre. The 'badge' is an ID lanyard. It's literally local people putting in an hour or two for stuff not worth the time of 101 or the PCSO.

Exactly how naughty is what I assume is a bit of Walting?

Very naughty, but it won't stick as they'll claim that they misunderstood. Make it official if you feel it's worthwhile (and after reflecting on the impact and how you behaved too). At the very least a word will be had.

The actual police wouldn’t do anything if you reported it. Probably not even have a word.

Literally refusing a request to do something. Something that couldn't have been done regardless. On private property, and not theirs!

They came across as aggressively nutty then started digging when told they were talking bks.

PS. I don't expect anything to be done but having the right chapter & verse to throw at Walt if there's a Round Two might be fun.

It's not like I truly give a st as I know if they had any ability to do anything it would likely have happened long ago, plus they're likely to wind themselves up into an early grave given their obvious temper. They've apparently had run ins with everyone.

Worth reporting in my view, I've done it many times with PCSOs, traffic wombles and actual PCs, and almost always get a proper response and action taken.

I work for the police, but I am not a police officer.

I have an ID card identifying me, but do not have a warrent card or any of the other jazzy police officer extras.

Officers go through a lot of training to earn their responsibilities. Pretending to be one when you're not is very bad form. My boss (an actual warrent card-carrying Chief Inspector) would definitely have words.

Refusing a request to do something that couldn't be done certainly foxed me!

And it will continue. For added frustration, you should check out an earlier post by the OP:

Incomprehensible, or what...?

Sorry for not coming back, some of us have other things to do.

The guy was objecting to something that he wanted moved on a building - some disused cable! It was locked in place by access scaffolding at the time so impossible to shift regardless of desire to do so.

Quite apart from that it wasn't his, and it wasn't on his property, and it was just annoying him by seeing it from his window.

And when told nothing was going to be done because he wasn't talking to anyone who could do anything about it (by ownership or ability) he went off on a rant.

I would report it via web chat to the police, it sounds like someone needs to have a word with him.

Probably for his own benefit really as he could easily get himself into a situation where his is out of his depth of he's carrying on like that and someone chins him.
