It may appeal to the American market, but its a TRUCK fer gawds sakes.
Possibly. The aim of the project was to show how versatile the crated engine is for dropping into all vehicles. Sadly they've lost sight of that and modified an inappropriate vehicle as their demonstrator.
Guess most people visiting this site don't know much about hot rodding, but it's long been a major part of American car culture and many F100s have been given the hot rod treatment.
Ford have basically produced a factory hot rod using modern high performance running gear as opposed to the usual pushrod V8/auto box. So yes, it's a truck, and yes, it's designed for American tastes - but then where do you think Ford are going to sell most of those engines?
Regarding the wheels by the way, their smooth finish is due to the fitting of 'moon' discs which were a popular way of improving aerodynamics for running on the Bonneville salt flats way back in the 40s/50s and which hot rodders adopted for road use back in the days before alloys. Still used today for that retro-rod look.

Too right. Gee, I'm really impressed that they've managed to "squeeze" their engine into a vehicle with just about the largest engine bay I've ever seen...

Says Who? Pick up trucks are part of American culture, something I think most people here just do not understand. Like you said.. the point was to demonstrate the engine... and most of them will probably be sold in the USA anyway.
(sorry for venting !)
Trucks have large engine bays to begin with. It would have been a far better demonstration of the engine's versatility if they had packaged it in a front-engined and rear-engined regular sized car.
Besides, old American trucks are sinfully ugly. Oh, I see why they are so popular...NOT!
