OK, you have a choice:-

You can either take £50,000 guaranteed

or

Flip a coin, on one side you win £1,000,000 or the other side you win.....nothing.

Anybody brave enough?

Unless someone _desperately_ needed the 50k, surely everyone tosses the coin.

Obviously 50k would be nice but it wouldn't significantly change my life whereas a million would. I suspect I'd be flipping the coin.

You gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers.

I mean, I already have 50k. Does anyone here have a 1M and wants to play?

Sadly, as shown by lottery ticket sales, those who need the 50k will take the chance.

A million would be nice but I would take the 50k, similarly I don’t often buy lottery tickets.

Happens on the radio all the time. Most people would take £5k+, let alone £50k.

I would not look past being offered £50k buckshee, it's a no brainer.

Obviously coin flip.

Question should be:

Lose £50k / be saddled with £50k debt

or

Win £1M.

Then it would be risky.

It was also covered on a different thread a few weeks ago, after a news article about the difference between men and women, and this conundrum.

I'd take the 50k thanks.

Some interesting replies, but whether the people saying they would flip the coin actually would when push comes to shove? Easy to say that sat behind a keyboard with no pressure.

Agreed. I'd only take the 50k if I was desperate. I can earn 50k in a year, so its not life changing. 1m is life changing for most people.

It's easy to be brave when it's theoretical.

Lots of Britons have next to no savings.

To the people here saying they'd take the coin flip I'd simply ask if you lose your job tomorrow how long can you cover the bills for?

So would I,

I was once offered a £10,000 bonus at work but if I waited a year they would give me £20,000. Never had an employer that I could trust so I took the £10,000.

Could also be a depression issue, turning down the £50,000 and then flipping a coin and having None could be a life tipping moment, event though I don't need the money.

Of course. To somebody that doesn't find £50k a life changing amount of money they'll be more likely to go for the coin flip, hardly surprising.

Those people also likely have their ducks in a row with regards to back up for job losses.

Definitely flip, don't need £50k. But £1m would do nicely as an early inheritance for the kids. 5 kids £10k each or £200k each, they would tell me to flip.
