Got a call from Toyota on Friday, asking if I'd like to book my nearly 6 year old, 5k mile GR in for a major service and MOT. Seems the service is now £602, so I asked if that included changing all the transmission fluids. The answer was they are checked, and topped up if necessary. Apparently 2 or 3 years ago this service was around £350, so that's some big inflation. I wonder what would happen if I say I want the fluids, if it doesn't need topping up. As I don't fancy hanging around in the dealership for 3-4 hours, I asked about a courtesy car, that will be another £40. If it wasn't for extending the warranty, and having to use Toyota to get it, I don't think they would see the car again.

Not the cheapest car to do next to no miles in.

Having seen really very bad service issues by Toyota dealers, I have serviced my own GRY from 2,500 miles on. I'm quite handy with spanners (working on classic Aston's and stuff) and I know for an absolute fact it's done with more care than any 'filter spinner' who's on a bonus at the dealer!! It's also a damn sight cheaper!

An example of a bad service, a Toyota dealer gave the customer their GRY back with brake pads fitted back-to-front !!! Yep, the steel back of the pad on the disc surface!
