DVD drive pooped!?! Help pls.

My DVD drive will open, close and spin but never recognises a disk, just says please put a disk in drive d. Drive is empty.

I have removed it and given it a good blow out and shake :) and it still does not work.

Do you think I need to get a new one and if so, do they just plug in and go?

(actually could do with upgrading to a dvd writer anyway.

Any tips on what dvd writer is best at the mo?

If its just a standard 5 1/4" drive then any off the shelf one will replace it.

Sounds like the laser in yours is FUBARed.

Should be two or three plugs (if its using the audio out) and four screws holding it into the case.
