Hi all, hoping someone with N57 experience can point me in the right direction.
I have a 2015 BMW 640d Gran Coupe, N57, ~101k miles. I'm getting an intermittent Drivetrain: Full performance not available warning.
The fault code is 244C00 – charging pressure control / charge pressure too low.
The pattern is quite specific:
- Most commonly happens after a cold start
- Often occurs when accelerating around 70mph, particularly when joining a faster road
- Usually happens once per ignition cycle
- Turning the car off and restarting clears the warning
- It normally won't happen again during that journey
- It doesn't happen every cold start
- It has also happened at lower speeds, so 70mph isn't the only trigger
- Car otherwise drives normally with no obvious loss of power, smoke, strange noises or overheating
A BMW specialist scanned it with ISTA and confirmed 244C00. They found the charge-pressure/intake pressure sensor contaminated with soot and replaced it, then kept the car overnight and tested it from cold. No fault occurred during their testing, so they believed it was fixed.
Unfortunately, the same drivetrain warning returned the next morning, under almost identical conditions.
The specialist is now suspecting the pressure converters/electro-pneumatic solenoids, but because the fault is intermittent they're difficult to catch failing.
Before I start throwing parts at it, I'm wondering:
Has anyone had this exact issue on an N57/640d? What actually ended up fixing it?
I'm particularly interested in whether I should be looking at pressure converters/solenoids, vacuum lines, turbo actuator/VNT mechanism, charge-air leaks, or something else.
Any N57/640d experience would be massively appreciated.
