The Jaguar Type 01
Discussion
As this has gone a bit quiet recently I thought I'd ask Copilot 'What's the latest on the new Jaguar car?'

The latest on Jaguar’s new car is all about the upcoming Type 01, a four‑door luxury electric GT that marks Jaguar’s full brand reset. It’s being officially revealed today, 6 October 2026, in New York, and nearly every major automotive outlet has been buzzing about it.
What the Jaguar Type 01 is:
Jaguar’s first car in its new all‑electric luxury era, replacing its entire previous lineup.
A four‑door GT, priced around £120,000, positioned against high‑end EVs like the Porsche Taycan and Mercedes EQS.
The production design stays very close to the dramatic Type 00 concept.
Performance & Engineering
Tri‑motor electric powertrain, producing ~1,000 hp and 959 lb‑ft of torque.
Expected range over 400 miles, with a 120 kWh battery and 350 kW charging capability.
Built on 850V architecture for ultra‑fast charging and high efficiency.
Jaguar claims it “drives like no other electric car” and retains classic Jaguar duality: performance + comfort.
Interior
Bold, minimalist, futuristic cabin with:
A central spine dividing four individual seating spaces.
Almost no physical controls, relying on hidden‑until‑needed tech.
A virtual rear‑view mirror (because the car has no rear window).
Premium materials and a panoramic glass roof.
Exterior
Long bonnet, low roofline, wide stance — deliberately dramatic and “copy nothing.”
Rear has a bootlid rather than a fastback, but no rear window, similar to Polestar 4.
Timeline
Reveal: 6 October 2026 (today).
Orders: Opening in the UK and North America after the reveal.
Deliveries: Expected early 2027.
The Big Picture
Jaguar is using the Type 01 to completely reinvent itself — no more mid‑market saloons, no more chasing BMW. This is a pure luxury EV brand reboot, and the Type 01 is the flagship that has to justify the entire transformation. Early prototype drives suggest it might actually live up to the hype.
So, I shall expect to see a feature on this in tonight's news...What the Jaguar Type 01 is:

I like it. But that's academic I think.
"Buyers are likely to be rich, “urban” and “very design literate, very technology literate”, Glover said. “The person making this purchase will be choosing the car because it’s a bold choice.”
A senior JLR executive close to the Type 01 project put it more bluntly: “It’s the type of car that you park up and everybody stops and says: ‘F**king hell, what have you just turned up in?’”"

Well...
"Buyers are likely to be rich, urban and very design literate, very technology literate , Glover said. The person making this purchase will be choosing the car because it s a bold choice."
Some wealth is to be expected, but it's a bummer for those not also urban, very design literate and very technology literate. Or maybe it isn't, because they'll buy something else.

They are actually quite likely to say that, but talking of literacy, CEOs should be sufficiently literate to use decent English.
Usually with any car I can find something I like about it. In this respect the Type 01 is indeed exceptional.

The TG video said they need at least 10k buyers a year to make it work economically and this brand identity will be the model for others in the range - the expectation is for it to cost £150k on average when fully optioned and of course it has tariff challenges in the US and the pop out door handles can’t be a feature of any they sell into China
Just on the basis of watching one review of the launch vehicle the front seats seem to be quite cramped with a low roof line and very high central tunnel and the rear seats are very cramped and the luggage capacity and boot aperture seems limited for a 4 seat GT style vehicle
Maybe it succeeds but it’s some gamble they are making - what’s the target model they are seeking to draw buyers away from ? A Bentley Continental GT perhaps

The thing is Jaguar doesn't have anything to lose because the cars they were making before nobody wanted to buy anyway, so they may as well just have one last roll of the dice before they close Jaguar down.

Well, as a former director of mine once said 'If you're going to go bankrupt you may as well put your feet up and enjoy it; there's no point working for it'!
Maybe Jaguar should swap advisers with the Conservative Party - it might be like the Two Ronnies optician sketch where they swap glasses and suddenly they can both see perfectly
